Wild blue and wild green,
from the branching, flowering flax,
seasick with the waves,
the comely blue one dances.
When blue sheds its leaves,
the green dancer hallows:
clover green, olive green
and festive lemon green.
What beauty!
What color!
Gentle red and blood red
of rose and carnation-
when green grows weary,
it leaps into play like a champion.
They dance,
pitted against each other,
and who knows which is better.
The reds dance with so much fire.
They consume themselves with passion.
What caprice!
What color!
For humanity and divinity,
the sacred splendor dances,
broadcasting golden aromas
and wings of saffron.
What delirium!
What color!
Yellow arrives
Huge and full of fevers;
Everyone makes way for it
As though bearing witness to Agamemnon.
At last, they exit,
following the peacock sun
that picks them up
and carries them away
like a father or a thief.
Hand in hand with us,
they
were, hut are no longer:
the story of the world dies
When the storyteller gives up the ghost
