Grace

to Amado Alonso

A dappled bird,

a bird like jasper

went rainbow

wild

through the carriage

of the air.

This same early

morning,

the river passed hy

like a lance.

The pure and clear

aurora remained

dazzling

with the wind's perfume.

Those who did not behold it.

don't know a thing.

They slept with tight sheets,

but I rose with shimmers of Venus –

half was evening,

half dawn.

 The air tossed me

when she passed,

cruising by

like a wind and scintillation,

buffeting my face

and shoulders.

She seemed like a lily

or a swordflsh.

Deep air shot free; she was

devoured by

the sprawling sky

and in an instant

vanished.

I remained trembling

on uncertain ground,

my good news

swept away?.
